Ideas

…and that’s a good thing!

—————–

After several months of beta testing and several more months of talking with PicturEngine founder and creator, Justin Brinson, I have high hopes for his creation. I believe PicturEngine.com can do for independent freelance stock photographers what I had hoped to do with Evostock.com.

Justin contacted me about a year ago after having read my Vision Plan for Evostock. We soon found that we  shared a very similar vision of a future stock image licensing industry without the big “agency” power structure that dominates the industry and its revenues today, a vision where independent stock photographers could play on a level playing field with the traditional agencies and not have to pay the lions share of their revenues to a domineering middleman. Justin built his vision from the ground up while I tried to get Photoshelter on board with my plans for Evostock using their Virtual Agency technology. Evostock has stalled out for a few reasons… but this is about PicturEngine.

PicturEngine is everything I wanted and more for a new paradigm in stock imagery licensing and distribution. It is sustainable and it supports creators and clients without the big powerful middleman. It even uses the PLUS system and the PlusPacks Calculator developed by the SAA years ago.

So, rather than explaining it all here I will just send you to the link where you can learn more (click here or above / below). Watch the videos, read the FAQ’s and register for an account. Lock in the monthly rate by getting in early with the Beta pricing. Put yourself on a level playing field with the big agencies for as little as $10/month and get 100% of licensing revenues from your pictures!

It is my opinion that PicturEngine will eliminate the independent stock producers need for “representation” at any of the big agencies. Phototographers need to let go of the past and embrace this new way of licensing and distribution. It is here!

Addicted to Cracks

Posted in Creativity with tags , , , , , , , on January 29, 2010 by Tim McGuire Images

Over the last year I’ve been attracted to photographing cracks in sidewalks, streets, walls… whatever.  Here are a few of my newest “Cracks In Pavement” series.

To me the images are about urban decay or possibly the nature of life… or the life of nature… even in those inanimate objects like a concrete sidewalk.  They have a life too. Everything deteriorates.

Tell me what you think.

Evostock – Turning the Stock Image Business Upside Down.

A collective of professional stock artists is turning the status quo on its head by creating and building a new business model for stock image distribution that better benefits image creators.  Many artists are saying goodbye to Getty Images and Corbis and are looking for better more profitable and sustainable ways to market, distribute, and license their creative work to customers.

Evostock, a Virtual Agency created on Photoshelter technology plans to build its virtual image collection and number of members to a critical mass.  Once that critical mass is reached they intend to leverage those numbers in the marketplace to completely bypass the need for the expensive and outdated stock agency system which has dominated artists and the industry at large in the past.

Tim McGuire, a professional stock photographer based in Seattle, Washington is the Virtual Agencies Founder and Administrator.  Tim say’s “I couldn’t see a viable business for me going forward with the big agencies who keep on taking more and more of the revenue from my work and charging their customers less and less.  My expenses weren’t going down so I started looking for a way to remove the middleman from the equation.  Evostock is what I came up with.”

For more info on joining Evostock go to www.Evostock.org where you can find several downloadable documents including a 16 page pdf outlining the organization and vision Tim McGuire has for the future of this entity.
